6 Outfit Ideas: Free People’s Green Track Pants

First off, DO NOT WORRY. I haven’t totally lost it. My Christmas tree is down now — these were shot a few weeks ago.

Secondly, I’ve been a fan of spring green forever (or grass green, is it?). Regardless of what you call it, it’s the bright, sporty green color of these Free People track pants.

I first tried Free People’s wide-leg track pants a couple of weeks ago, hoping they’d work on my non-pull-on-pants-friendly body (I’m wearing a medium, btw). It turns out they do! AND they’re currently on sale! These pants are a little funky, a lot sporty and really comfy (and have the coolest side zip).

Funky, Sporty & Comfy: 6 Outfit Ideas Ft. Green Wide-Leg Track Pants

I thought the side-zip detail could be an issue, but it isn’t. I’ve worn these track pants multiple times, all day long. They’re the fun, soft, wide-leg pants I didn’t know I needed in my closet. Plus, they’re giving me some creative inspo right now when I need it most! January is rough, eh?

Maybe I’m digging this green so much because it reminds me of the back of my beloved Stan Smith sneakers (ooh, hey, platform version!) and now…these wide-leg track pants. OK, let’s get to my six outfit ideas.

1. Green Track Pants With…A Classic Trench, Hoodie + Pop Of Print

The classic tan trench coat from J.Crew paired with Free People’s sporty green track pants is my favorite color combination. You may have seen me do this pairing last spring with a Clare V. sweatshirt.

Here, I’m loving that pop of checkered pattern on my bag (this one is similar), or you could try something striped — anything to break up all the solid colors.

2. Green Track Pants With…A Silk Blouse + Statement Flats

I wasn’t sure about this silk shirt from Everlane with the wide-leg track pants, but…I love, love it. It’s kinda that “Schleppy-Chic style” Em talks about, where you’re wearing super-comfy pieces together with something elevated, and it works.

I adore these tufted slippers from Printfresh — they have an actual sole and read like cute mules/flats on! I wear them on sunny/dry days here, and no one’s the wiser.

3. Green Track Pants With…Puffer Poncho Scarf + Sneakers

As if you haven’t seen enough of this puffer poncho (which is also transforms into a scarf) yet…here it is again. I love to use this puffer as a sporty top layer over bulky sweatshirts and sweaters. It’s so great. I’ve found that layering is key for a thoughtful-looking outfit.

Plus, of course, my beloved adidas Superstar sneakers.

4. Green Track Pants With…A Denim Shacket + Chelsea Boots + Graphic Tee

So, for this combo I kinda…well…I don’t know if I’m 100% in love. But I think something works here. It’s probably the denim shirt-jacket and the Sorel Chelsea boots. I love a cute heart-tee moment, but maybe a dark-color graphic tee would work better here for a cooler vibe. Regardless, I am loving the longer shacket top with the track pants!

5. Green Track Pants With…A Faux-Leather Puffer + Which Bag, Tho?

I’m LOVING Abercrombie’s black faux-leather puffer with these sporty track pants. It’s the kind of combo I live for…edgy + sporty. (Am I a broken record about that? Haha, it’s OK.) But I couldn’t decide…checkered crossbody or an ivory purse with a red strap? I think around the holidays, the red could be a nod to festiveness, but maybe this time of year check is best.

6. Green Track Pants With…A Long-Sleeve Tee + Fun Colors

You got a sneak peek of this outfit recently in a Reel over on our Instagram. I love the fun color combo of the sunset top from Free People with the green pants. This top is SO soft too! These Sorel Ona sneakers are amazing, and I love the pop of blue.

Shop Other Green Track Pants

I love these track pants from Free People Movement, and as long as you lock down the little zipper at the top, they’re fab and stay put all day. But if you don’t want the sporty side-zips, or are looking for a different fabric, I’ve rounded up more green wide-leg pants below!

  1. Laura, so inspired by this post! Love the color, and just got the pants today. But how do you lock down the side zippers at the top? For the life of me, I can’t get them to stay zipped.

    • Oh dang! I just make sure they are folded all the way down until they ‘lock.’ I haven’t had any issues as long as I do that! I hope your pair doesn’t have an issue with them!
