Free People started out with their Adella Bra, which I own in white (and love as a summer staple)…and it quickly became a best seller. I got excited when they soon after debuted the Adella Dress, a slip-style dress with the Adella bra as the “frontrunner”. Essentially, it makes it possible to show off the ultra-pretty bralette more, instead of having it hidden underneath a top. The skirt part of the dress is soft and comfortable, too…and as a 5’10 gal it hits at a great spot on my leg, not an awkward length at all.
Still Obsessed: The Free People Adella Dress
If you have trouble with the bra situation with warm-weather dresses, me too, gal. Me too! That’s another big reason why I appreciate the Adella dress so much — NO BRA NEEDED. Now, yeh. I would like to have some more *cough* substance, shall we say, to my friends up top, but I don’t…and I don’t need it with this dress. It accentuates what I do have and kind of frames them ever so nicely with crochet lace details.
I have had this dress for a year now (the bra a few years,) and I am still pulling it out every spring with excitement about wearing it. It makes me feel good!
Despite my antics, I was tired in these pictures. I can see it in my eyes. The day before had been hard, that particular kind of hard that leaves you bone-weary in its wake. There was frustration over trying to get a handle on our daughter’s ADD, grades at school and overall behavior at home. You mamas know what I am talking about, even if you don’t face the same struggles — the immense weight of all of the emotional baggage that has to be carried, arriving on your doorstep as thundering, crashing waves.
On top of that, I’ve been on a…uh…Journey To Self, let’s call it, this past year. While it sounds inspiring and gloriously freeing, it has felt more like a very slow trudge through neck-high mud and sinking sand…with ankle weights on…while someone launches flaming arrows at me. Yeh. No ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ here, ladies.
I’ve been coming to the realization and acceptance (somewhat begrudgingly) that healing is a very wacky thing, not linear or even logical, at least not from my viewpoint. At certain points, it serves up more pain than it does enlightenment, but my gosh, that suffering has an uncanny way of clearing a path to joy, a type of which I didn’t allow myself or know how to accept before, but…now I can see it. I’m becoming more familiar with it, even with it still just out of reach.
So, for that I will keep on trudging. Although slow, at least I know that I am moving, with the hope of skipping one day…soon?
Cheers to happy dresses at least. Now back to my serious ‘modeling’. Snort.
dress: Adella Maxi Slip Dress – I believe I am wearing the Slate color (it looks lighter in the product pics). I’m wearing a Small (go off of your usual bralette size), height is 5’11. The Adella can be found at Free People, Nordstrom, Revolve, Zappos and eBay (I’ve started shopping on eBay again, and I am loving it, just requires looking around a bit).
sandals: Sam Edelman Eavan Studded Sandals – I’ve had these in a tan color for years (ran them into the ground), recently updated to the white. I’m a big, big fan of them. TTS. You can find them at Nordstrom, Saks, Sam Edelman, Verishop, Bloomingdales, Zappos and Macy’s.
backpack: Rebecca Minkoff Julian (navy option here) – I have a navy blue Julian, and I carry it all year round. It’s lovely. Also, this white AllSaints Alpha Leather Backpack is calling to me. whoah. I like that it has interchangeable straps, which make it easily worn as a backpack or shoulder bag. The shape is fresh, to.
You can find me on ye old Instagram @camilledipaola, too.
