When looking for an everyday sweater to add to my outfit line-up for the Fall & Winter months, I have just a few requirements – it has to be soft, has to be a bit oversized and lastly, it most definitely be wearable with both jeans and more tailored pieces (for those random times I feel like really trying, so…maybe like twice a year). Honestly though, once I tried it on and experienced how lusciously soft it was I didn’t need much persuasion after that. I just wanted to take a nap.
Now, when I first put it on, I was thinking destroyed denim all. the. way. It’d be casual & easy for the day-to-day running around with kids. I was game for that…until I came across these sophisticated pants and well, forget jeans! Let’s have another Audrey Hepburn moment, why don’t we? I can stand to have a bit of a pick-me-up in the daily outfit department right now anyways.
outfit details
top: Free People Ottoman Slouchy Tunic (TTS, wearing S, but FP usually fits oversized) – yes, it’s TECHNICALLY a tunic, but wears and feels like a sweater. It’s incredibly comfortable, soft and warm. I’d wear it with leggings, too. Ooooh snap! It just got better, didn’t it? I also like it in the ‘dark turquoise’ and ‘mink’.
pants: AYR The Arrow Pants (went up one size to a 6) – they have a higher waist, which is nice…and also seem to stretch pretty well, so that makes moving in them more comfortable…and totally good to be worn on school days, when you don’t want to feel like you’re wearing uptight trousers. I also like the added slit detail, in the back, by the ankles. It makes them a bit more unique and cool (see picture below).
shoes: Sam Edelman Ruby Pointed Toe Flat (could have gone up a half-size, but am wearing a size 9.5 here) – a ballet flat is always nice to have, to throw on for any day…and this is a lovely style, with the keyhole detail especially. Very classy and pretty.
sunglasses: zeroUV Classic Retro Round Sunglasses – gosh, I love a cheap pair of trendy sunglasses. I just go through them so quickly, with the throwing them in random bags, the kids trying them on…and smashing them. Cheap shades are my jam in my current state of life. I have found a lot on Amazon (& Prime Shipping. Hello!).
bag: Fossil Preston Cross-body (cheetah) – this is a cool little bag…it has a wrap around zipper that allows for some expansion. I’ve always been a fan of Fossil’s bags, because they have proved to be really well-made and the prices are not absolutely ridiculous. If you’re looking for a good, dependable, everyday bag that can weather the kids…consider Fossil bags.
I’ll leave you with a look at the pant details (back ankle slits) AND a look at someone’s sick minivan…
It’s mine, by the way. Oooooh yeah.
Cheers,
Cams

I’ve been eyeing this sweater…but I’m 28 weeks pregnant! Do you think it could double as maternity??
I’d definitely wear it while pregnant!
I bought this sweater last year in wine and I wore it throughout my entire pregnancy. It’s very roomy in the torso but nicely fitted in the forearms (not too tight under your winter coat/jacket). Order your usual Free People size. I love this sweater so much that I bought it in two more colors this fall (in cherry red and optic white).
Grr my question somehow didn’t show as a reply…it is below!
Thank you both!! One more question…this is my second, so with a newborn on the way and a toddler I am skeptical about the handwashing part. Have either of you washed it in a less…delicate way?
I only handwash my bathing suits. I wash everything else that’s precious inside out in a lingerie net laundry bag, on the delicate cycle, in cold water. I lay flat to dry on a clothing drying rack. It’s got a great tight knit to it, so it’s sturdy to wear and to clean.
I have the white one and it’s divine! I’m a solid medium, and I bought a medium in this sweater. It’s roomy but not crazily oversized like a lot of their clothes have been lately. The weight and texture of the fabric make it really unique and stylish.
Love this! But what I really love is your hair! Can we see more pics of it and maybe a tutorial?! Serious. ?
