Hey fall fanatics! I know more of you must be out there. We have lots of summer-lovers here at TME, but I’ve been quite vocal about autumn being my absolute favorite…and I’m not talking PSLs. Of course, the fall leaves and the fall colors (did you see my post?!) and the fall fooooood is all so enticing…but I get the most excited about fall fashion because layering. I love it. My co-workers when I was back in Nashville used to call me ‘layers’ because it was always my go-to for getting dressed. Haha. It’s interesting, it’s fun and it looks intentional…all things I love to chat about here.
OK, so layering is good. Also good are plaid, jackets, boots, sweaters, coziness and jeans, obviously. Jeans are my favorite piece of clothing, and I can’t wait to get back into them now. This year I was so excited about some inspirational outfit pics I collected that we thought let’s get this down into a post and share with the people. So here we are. Grab your favorite pumpkin-flavored thing (when do all of those come out at Trader Joe’s?!) and let’s get to it.
I keep seeing these everywhere. I’ll style mine like this, and also with skinny jeans and heels for brunch or date night.
If you haven’t checked out the one where I try on all the combat boots, head there first. But I wound up going with the rad All Saints Franka. I’m still loving the tried and true Docs too though. When it comes to tough black boots decisions are hard.
I’ve fully embraced the wide leg these days. I mostly do a cropped version so it’s not too overwhelming on me, and I do either a cropped sweater or graphic tee and longer jacket. Those proportions seem to work well. Or if nothing else, do the half tuck of whatever top you’re wearing to create the look of a longer leg. These look great with combat boots, heels or flats and loafers. I have some in black and just got a blue jean pair recently. Next up, finding some gorgeous wide-leg trousers. Let me know if you have some you love.
I mean, always for fall, right? Maybe I should say “all things plaid” because I’ve already snagged this jacket and these pants. I love mixing plaid work pieces with denim, graphic tees and sneakers for the weekend. Also, don’t be afraid to mix plaid with another print!
I always want a good cozy jacket for fall, and this camel shade is just amazing. I like the slightly outdoor/sporty vibe to this one instead of the fancy/dressy vibe of some. I find I wear this style much more often for everyday. And yes, I’ll be sporting this with the hiking boots below for full-on Pacific Northwest chops.
Love. The western boot trend is totes out there right now, and I like that these aren’t super-western vibey. I also like that the darker red is a little easier to style than a super-bright red. I’ll wear these with black jeans, a graphic tee, and my glen plaid blazer (black and white plaid) from last fall.
These have been trickier to find. They’re selling out and not that many pairs are available to start with, but I love love ivory denim for fall and winter. They’re much easier to pull off than white, and go with the great fall shades like camel, dark red and gray SO well.
I found myself recently needing a new pair of hiking boots, and I looked all over and came back to the insanely well-made Danner brand boots. Not only are they local to Portland, but they will last a lifetime and many of their styles can be resoled. I landed on the classic Danner Light boot not only because it’s a fabulous boot, but I keep seeing it styled for streetwear this fall, too. I definitely want an investment boot I can wear beyond hiking! This cedar shade is selling out, but the classic tan with red laces and a black version are also available.
Cozy, one and done outfit. Pair with sneakers, combat boots, or a bright boot for a fun pop. I’ll be wearing mine with a moto jacket on top all fall. See how Tiarra wears hers here.
With all the high-waistedness going on these days and being short-waisted myself, I’ve now embraced the cropped sweater. I know. But it works! And it flatters the waist and makes legs look longer…it’s good, I promise, especially if you’re going chunky sweater. The proportions of a cropped version are just more wearable on shorties and also just on most of us.
