During our last FB live, several readers mentioned that they wanted to see pieces from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale that could work for a warm fall. And since many of them live in Southern California, a warm winter as well. My head had already been heading in that direction. While Philly can be relied on for a fairly cold winter, it hasn’t really snowed in years (sob!), and it’s not uncommon for 80 degree temps to persist into October. Which, annoying. In any case, I had been pulling together a wish list of pieces I could start wearing sooner rather than later (keeping stay-at-home in mind), so I just rounded it out with a few nonchalantly cool pieces that I’d happily wear in LA. The result is a a decidedly SoCal aesthetic.
Best Of Nordstrom Anniversary Sale: A Decidedly SoCal Capsule Wardrobe
This capsule relies on comfy, easy pieces that are cool (read: interesting), but not tailored. If you’re looking for a more East Coast vibe, check out my post Best Of Nordstrom Anniversary Sale: The Ultimate Capsule Wardrobe (also made from 2020 #NSale pieces).
Such an easy dress (literally just a t-shirt dress,) but with a French-girl twist. Would work with sneakers, mules, heels — everything. I’m worried this one is going to sell out.
Also try: If you’re more of a colorful kind of gal…this dress.
I carry a straw bag for as many months of the year that I can. The black straw makes this one totally appropriate for fall (especially a warm fall).
A stretchy, comfy jumpsuit is exactly what I want to wear for stay-at-home situations. Feels like PJs, looks like a real outfit.
This sweater runs HUGE, but that’s part of it’s slouchy, nonchalant charm. Half-tuck into denim shorts now, jeans later.
Super-destroyed denim is an easy answer to warm weather, and FRAME skinnies are typically really soft and comfortable.
Also try:Levi’s 501s. I sized up two sizes, and these are the jeans I’ve been happily wearing allllll summer. (They’re meant to be cropped, so I hack off the bottom 2-3 inches, and still turn them up into one large-ish cuff.)
This is another item I’m a worried won’t last. They’re just so effortlessly cool.
If these do sell out: I’m going to try these woven slides in tan. They have a similar casual-luxe vibe.
White bags work year-round. They’re an obvious win in the summer months, and look so unexpected and fresh in winter.
This brand makes really special pieces, and this one is no exception: the shape is so freaking cool. Typically Frank & Eileen is really expensive (and really well-made), but the price point on this piece (almost 50% off) is one I can actually swing.
If you haven’t yet heard of p448, they’re really similar to Golden Goose (and Laura swears by hers). I like the subtle pop of leopard print on this pair.
Another shoe I’m worried will sell out quickly. It comes in a ton of colors, but I’m all about this ‘cappuccino croc’. It’s a good neutral, with just enough texture.
Fancy t-shirts are under-rated! They give going-out looks an effortless, nonchalant vibe, but can also be paired with cute sweats at home.
A cute bralette to peek out under everything.
I’m a sucker for a sporty stripe. This little set is just easy and cute.
I’m a HUGE rag & bone fan, but haven’t yet tried the Mayas. I have high hopes, though — the vintage vibes, the perfectly faded blue wash, the distressing…all the stuff I like in one little denim package.
Under $100: BlankNYC’s straight-leg cropped jeans. The wash is darker, but interesting. I’m usually really impressed with BlankNYC, especially considering the price. Size up one size for best fit.
This surf brand makes really high-quality stuff. I love the smocking, and would happily tuck this little top into any pair of high-rise jeans.
Under $50: This little Caslon top has the smocking and general vibe of the Faherty blouse, but without the playful color. Still a pretty cute top for $35.
I actually love both colors of this easy cotton top. Choosing which one to keep will be the trick.
This loungewear top has a low, twisted back, so would I’d wear with a cute bralette. An easy way to elevate sweatpants or denim.
These sandals find that happy medium between sporty and street. Love ’em.
For chilly nights! I’ll never not be into a good fleece…and am hoping this one is as chic as it looks.
Slouchy v-neck tee? Yes please. OBVIOUSLY.
The cutest little UGG slippers, perfect for warmer days. I’m willing to bet these also go fast — they’d make the perfect gift, too.
Swapping out my usual black sweatpants for ivory is one way I made my quarantining self feel fancy (fancier?) this past spring. I’ll bet it still works this Fall.
