Walked a Mile In These Shoes: Everlane Day Glove Flats

We’re always on the hunt for cute, comfortable shoes here at The Mom Edit. And while I’m no comfort shoe queen (that’s Linzi), I do need a shoe I can literally walk a mile in. Or two, or three, preferably. Many of us live in downtown Philadelphia, which means that we rarely drive. Instead, we walk. We walk everywhere. We walk kids to school in the rain, we walk to each other’s houses in the snow, we walk to work, and we often walk to restaurants on a night out.

Enter: Everlane’s Day Glove Flat

We're obsessed. The Everlane Day Glove Flats have us in permanent SWOON — they're perfect for walking a mile in & salsa dancing, too. See why we love 'em.

A Review of Everlane’s Day Glove Flats

These flats were, initially, a reader recommendation (like most good things are). And, as promised, the leather upper is butter soft. In fact, the leather on these shoes is so shockingly soft, that several of you were worried that after a few wears they would start to look worn.

Because of this concern, I pushed this review out another month. I already had been walking a mile (or more) in these shoes, but over the past month I made it a point to wear them every chance I got — and while they do soften up a bit (you can tell, uh, that I have toes, for example) — I think the concern that they would immediately start to look worn can be put to rest.

The footbed is very cushy, the bottom is rubber (read: not slippery), and the whole shoe just seems to just mold to my foot. I have literally walked miles in these shoes and have never had a blister, nor has the back ever rubbed uncomfortably against my heel — these are shoes with zero break-in period.

Part of their success, I think, is due to the shape of the upper. Because it covers more of the foot than a traditional ballet flat, it stays in place better, which means less potential for rubbing. I’ve also found that this shoe stays in place SO well, that I can actually wear them out salsa dancing. (We LOVE the outdoor salsa events in Philly — Rocky Steps every Sunday is our fav.)

Outfit Details

top: Cloth and Stone Lace-Up Top (xs) – wearing this breezy little top over Madewell’s bralette (on sale!)

jacket: Free People Rumors Denim Jacket (xs) – this wash is perfect. That link goes to Bloomies (free shipping, free return shipping if you give them your email – the ‘loyalist’ program) but it’s also available at Free People (free shipping over $100).

jeans: Everlane Authentic High-Rise Skinny (size 25) – the washed black is a realllly good faded black.

flats: Everlane Day Glove Flats – these come in an almost overwhelming number of colors. I love the slight ballerina vibe of the tan ones (that’s the color I’m wearing) but am currently trying to decide on my next pair.  Julieta has me coveting white flats…while Laura has been rocking the heck out of the red. Hmmmm….

bag: Ahhh…this is my ancient Rebecca Minkoff mini Julian backpack in that taupe color that has never been restocked. Boo. The closest thing right now is the mini Julian in “doe” but I don’t love it: too pink. I think you’re better off checking eBay — there’s a bunch of good options.

scarf: Voloshin Biscayne Scarf – I love this scarf because it’s nice and big — more like a blanket scarf — but in a lightweight cotton for summer. If you’re not into giant scarves, Linzi just bought this one for herself…and her mum. It’s super-lightweight, but a smaller size. (Both are on sale, FYI.)

Now if the weather would just cooperate, we’ll be spending the rest of our Sundays like this:

Both boys have been taking salsa lessons (it’s one of the classes at Movemakers Philly) and it’s AWESOME.  My evil plan is working…mwah ha ha ha….if only I could get one of them to dress in a matching costume we can go all Lucille-and-Buster-at-Motherboy. HA.

  1. I have the same shoes, and they have hurt my feet a lot. I think it was the size I chose – I picked an 8 because a lot of 8.5s will flop off the backs of my heels, and flats in an 8 usually work better for me. However, I think in Everlane I would have done much better in an 8.5. They fit, but I was relying too heavily on the “they stretch to fit your foot” promise. They fit in the morning but then by mid-day they are rubbing and hurting. I am going to try the “wear socks and use a blow dryer” method to stretch these a little bit.

  2. Ooooh, I’m so glad someone reviewed these, and no better resource do I trust than TME! Good to know that they are cushy on the inside, but I have more questions. Are they tts? Will my feet get sweaty wearing them with or without socks? If I get caught in the rain, will I hate myself for wearing these shoes?

  3. I sized up a whole size–i have slightly wider feet and I am typically a size 10. I also found that my feet do not sweat or stink at all while wearing without socks—and I have worn them for at least all day everyday for the past 6 months. I do agree that the leather loosens and you really see your toes–but if that doesn’t bother you I love them.

  4. I love the Lucille and Buster comment! “they best show that no one is watching!” Anyway I’ve been eyeing these flats and I’m so glad to see the review. I might have to finally purchase these.

  5. I’ve had my Day Gloves for TWO YEARS and wear them at least once a week and they look almost brand new!!! I walk around the office with them all day. The rubber has worn down though, but not all the way through! The soles likely need to be replaced in the future.
