Ultimately, I’m a pretty boring gal, fashion-wise. I tend to find my uniform and wear it to death. In the winter, it’s a black turtleneck and jeans, in the summer it’s a linen Reformation dress, and in the fall (or spring) when the temps are wildly fluctuating, I tend to flop around with a random assortment of pieces until the weather finishes transitioning and I can get back to my sartorial happy place: turtlenecks or backless dresses.
There is no in-between.
I’m partially joking, of course. Over the years I’ve figured out ways to tweak my base uniforms into a range of outfits, but if you look closely…I’m a serial outfit repeater.
I’m A Serial Outfit Repeater: Here’s What I Wear With My Levi’s
And while I find the shoulder seasons particularly frustrating to dress for, this year I feel like I’ve got my fall look figured out. And there are four pieces in particular that have gotten a ton of use (and one silly little bonus item I use all the time).

As I mentioned, there are four pieces that I can’t seem to stop wearing (and it doesn’t hurt that they make one heck of a cute outfit all together). My most-worn pieces are likely to be ones you’ve already seen on our social channels, or featured in earlier articles. They’re my usuals:
- A pair of straight-leg Levi’s 501 jeans,
- A La Ligne cropped sweater (in 100% cotton),
- Classic checkerboard Vans,
- And (this one is new) a Clare V crossbody belt bag.
I’m calling that belt bag the new backpack.
1. The Clare V. Gigi Crossbody Belt Bag

I know calling Clare V’s unassuming little bag “the next backpack” is a bold statement, but I stand by it. THIS is the little bag I didn’t know I needed. It’s the one that seems to pull together every outfit…even when I’m wearing black and/or navy. This bag does come in black, but I tried both colors with several different outfits…and the tan one won every time.
It’s also comfortable to wear, and, despite the small size, still fits my phone, wallet, sunglasses and various lip balms/sunscreen stick and this tiny container of bug spray.

2. A La Ligne Striped Crop Sweater (in 100% Cotton)

I know I have a type, but my relationship with La Ligne is bordering on ridiculous. La Ligne’s perfectly striped sweaters have been some of my most-worn since…2017? I loved that striped sweater so much I bought it in another color…and if you peek at that outfit, you can see what I mean about a uniform: striped sweater, jeans, done.
Updated for this year, however, is a cropped, 100% cotton version of my beloved La Ligne striped sweater. I’ve found that cropped sweaters are an easy way to make those high-rise, loose jeans more flattering…and that 100% cotton sweaters are the answer to fluctuating temps. I can’t stand cashmere in warm weather, but a cotton sweater that manages to be both thick and soft?
Yes, please.
Furthermore, the neckline of this sweater is a bit high (think: J.Crew rollneck-ish), so it layers over t-shirts quite nicely.

3. Levi’s 501 Ripped Straight-Leg Jeans

I’ve tried other jeans, Gang. And I’m still coming back to my Levi’s 501s. Not only do I love the fit (I always, ALWAYS size up), but these jeans really do get softer over time. I make sure to start with a 100% cotton pair that is already soft…but I love the way they eventually loosen up, becoming perfectly slouchy.
And that rip, high up on the thigh? I add it in with scissors. It’s a way of making these jeans look a little sexier without sacrificing an ounce of comfort.

4. Oh Hey, Vans Checkerboard Classic

I’ve been wearing these Vans for years. I don’t know why these checkered little shoes go with everything, but they do. I even named them one of the best sneakers to wear with dresses. It’s Fashion Law.
While I typically wear Vans all summer, I’m finding that they’re pretty foolproof in fall, too.

5. This Travel Mug, Tho

If anyone happens to be looking for an ah-mazing travel mug…I highly recommend Ello’s Campy Stainless Steel Mug. It’s under $20, is easy to carry around (thanks to the handle), stays hot for hours and never leaks.
Oddly enough, I get compliments on this thing alllll the time — I think it’s the retro vibes. Love it. And for bona fides — we tried a bunch before landing on this one.
I’m curious: does anyone else repeat outfits as often as I do? If so, I’d love to hear…especially if you have a good one the rest of us can copy. 🙂
