Many of you know I LOVE my basic navy Uniqlo puffer that I got several years ago. I’ve been very happy with its warmth, durability, simple styling and price. So… it got me thinking that there are probably some other good reasonably priced puffer finds from Uniqlo as well. As I have taken on the self-assigned challenge of finding the PERFECT puffer, I decided to take a field trip for some dressing room selfies.
Uniqlo Coat Try-On Sesh: 8 Winter Puffer Jackets
1. Seamless Down Short Coat — Dark Green (On Sale)
This is my coat (that I wear on the daily and love), but in dark green instead of navy. Each time I try this dark green color on, I have to convince myself that I REALLY don’t need another coat exactly like the one I have. Each time, though, it takes A LOT of convincing because the color is good. If I didn’t have my navy one, I would buy this in a hot second. The color looks slightly dark gray in some lighting and then the gorgeous dark green in others. If you want to read more about the actual details of the coat go here and here.

2. Seamless Down Short Coat – Light Gray/White (On Sale)
I don’t know why they call this light gray…it looks white to me. The white coat below is the same coat as the green I tried (and the navy I have), but in size xs (a size smaller). I definitely like the bigger size better as this one was too snug zipped. The white is cute and looks like it would be easy enough to spot clean (always my worry with white coats). Super comfortable, the perfect weight for me, and cute clean style.

3. Ultra Light Down Hooded Coat – Brown
I’ve tried this coat before. The Seamless Down coat (my fav) has sold out fast the past two years and this one looks very similar, so I usually recommend this as a second choice. It feels completely different, though. It is very, very, very lightweight. People I know who have it wear it all winter and say it keeps them plenty warm, but I like a bit of a heavier feel to my winter coats. This is obviously very comfortable, though, if you prefer a lighter weight. It also would be much easier to pack if you travel frequently. I like the black, beige and navy, but for my personal style taste, the other colors (olive and brown(the one below) are a little meh. I like the color options in the seamless coat better.

4. Hybrid Down Parka – Black
I went into the store thinking I might walk out with this parka. I’ve been eyeing Shana’s Everlane Re:Down Puffy Puff (she knows I’m going in for the steal one of these days) and adore her Lole jacket, but because I don’t think I will wear a short puffer as often, I wanted to try a less expensive option. This one is fine, but I didn’t take it home. I may have liked it better in a bigger size as a more oversized look. It feels good on, and I like the way it looks unzipped, but it didn’t do THAT much for me zipped. I definitely like Shana’s Everlane and Lole ones much better, and the one I drool over is this AllSaints, but it’s $500. Looking online, though, Uniqlo does have this one that has similar stitching to Shana’s and is very reasonably priced. Worth exploring.

5. Reversible Down Jacket – Beige (On Sale)
I was so excited about these jackets. Anything that is reversible makes me stop in my tracks–clothing with double-duty efficiency…so cool! This is a size medium and it’s too big, but this is my favorite color combo. The beige has a bit of a gold hue, and I love the pop of orange. It’s lightweight, so I would wear this more as a “not-freezing-cold-outside” jacket, but as I mentioned before…friends I know who wear Uniqlo’s lightweight jackets say they are plenty warm.

6. Reversible Down Jacket – Navy (On Sale)
Color option 2 in the reversible down jacket. This is a size small and felt like the best fit. I liked the navy side with the pop of blue, but wasn’t a huge fan of the reversible all bright blue side. The pockets and sleeves didn’t feel right. There’s a navy with reversible green that they didn’t have in the store, but I might like better. Personal taste, obviously.

7. Reversible Down Jacket – Red (On Sale)
Can you tell I was super into the idea of these? I insisted on trying all the color options. This is size medium and slightly too big. I loved the bright red side, but wasn’t a huge fan of the reversible cranberry (the pockets and sleeves weren’t quite right for me). Again, though…completely personal taste.

8. The One I Wish I Tried (On Sale)
They didn’t have this one in the store, but this looks like the short coat I’m looking for. Super-cute cut, and comes in a bazillion fun and classic neutral colors.

Ultra Light Down Cocoon Jacket (Available in 9 colors!)
9. Special Edition Version
Uniqlo also came out with this special edition version of the cocoon jacket in collaboration with Marimekko (the Finnish design house known for bold prints and color). The prints are sold out in most sizes, but this blue is gorgeous, and it also comes in a really pretty green.

Shop Uniqlo Puffers (Many On Sale)
I am taking this Finding-The-Perfect-Puffer-Challenge VERY seriously, obviously. As my husband would say, I’m “goobering” this up by going on and on and on with this search…but that’s “how I do”, sooooooo..for my Amazon Coat review go here, for my Uniqlo and Boden puffer reviews go here, for my J.Crew Chateau puffer review go here, and for my Alternatives to the Amazon Coat go here. I’ll warn you, I just ordered a couple AllSaints puffers (SOOOO Pretty!) during the sales to see how a fancy coat compares to some of the lesser expensive options, and am hoping to try some more sustainable Everlane puffers too.
As always…feel free to shout out your own favs and opinions. I’m especially curious about opinions from those of you who have tried less expensive, as well as more lux brands. I will say, it was difficult for me to fall in love with this coat when I’ve tried Shana’s similar Lole one, and have this silly $500 AllSaints one in my head. Thoughts?

Is the short black one that you tried on packable? Did it have a bag to stuff it into?
No–it’s not officially “packable”. The one that I wanted to try (but wasn’t in the store) is, though. This one: https://rstyle.me/+c5UtUyIlGE9TA14VBXyAhg . And it’s under $50 right now!
Super helpful review! I’m looking into the black hybrid down parka, but torn between getting a Small or Medium. If you don’t mind me asking, what are your measurements? (Height, weight, bust) Seems like we have a similar build but I *think* Medium might suit me better for a comfier fit. (Btw the orange reversible was my favorite on you! Super street and urban chic, esp with the orange outside!)
I’m 5’2, 32 bust, and in the 130 lb range…the small fits me best in almost all Uniqlo coats. Hope you find one that works! 🙂
Thanks for the super speedy response, Linzi! Our measurements are sooo close – sounds like small for best fit and medium for oversized look. Thanks for the help!
