Edgy + Comfy = The Perfect Outfit Formula for What to Wear to a Concert

Fashion problem solving is one of my favorite things…for real. That’s why we’re all here now, right? I think I have the right job…But figuring out an outfit for an evening that requires multiple needs be met sans mid-evening wardrobe change —that, is tricky though.

One of those tricky occasions, for me, is concerts. I mean, trying to fulfill the desire to be a little dressy/fabulous/cool AND be able to wear shoes you can stand in for hours? Yeah, tricky. A lot of times I just default to my Chuck Taylor’s for concerts because I tend to see a lot of rock shows, but sometimes you just need something a little more special than Converse. I mean, maybe you’re lucky enough to see Bey and Jay??? You gotta step it up from your old black high tops.

But don’t worry guys, we’re still in our favorite jeans and a graphic tee here. It’s still me. I’m just adding a couple of fun yet comfy (hooray!) elements to jazz things up.

The Solution: A Cozy Jacket and Walkable Statement Boots

You know me, guys: I’m all about balance when I get dressed. Of course I’m gonna pair basic black jeans and a tee with anything remotely fancy. Haha. But that’s what works here for me. (And thanks for helping me choose which pairing on Facebook, y’all!) The jacket and shoes are exciting, and the top and jeans are go-tos and a nice template for splashing the fun onto. The coat is cozy and the shoes are walkable. This is how I like to get dressed up.

PJ Salvage Women’s Shag Jacket (similar)- This is lovely and cozy and fun. I’ve long been searching for the right fuzzy jacket, and this one has proven to be my favorite. So many I’ve tried have made me look like a furry football player, and that’s just not the look I’m going for. It has a nice drape instead of too much structure at the shoulders. It’s not super heavy, so it’s very versatile, and the warm gray-brown is just a perfect neutral. Wearing a Small.

Led Zepplin tee

Madewell 9″ High Rise Skinny Jeans in Black Sea – Favorite jeans ever. I just bought a third pair because I wear them ALL THE TIME. Guys, I am not a loyal jean person typically, but these are the best color, best fit, comfiest high waist. TTS. Wearing 27.

The Fix Kenzee Silver Kitten Heel Boot (similar or these) – You’ve seen these before, but they have become the most fun yet comfortable shoe to wear out. I wore them for a full day two weeks ago with faded black skinnies and an ivory sweater; they were great for daytime and the concert I went to that evening. Love them! TTS.

Snakeskin Clutch (similar and I like a crossbody better for going to a show)

I think the key here is a couple of fun, but practical pieces that jazz up the basics for an exciting night out but are gonna be comfy enough to be standbys in your wardrobe. I’ve been searching forever for a couple of those pieces, and I think I’ve finally found them! Hooray! Let me know if you have any of these special unicorns in your closet. I’ll still be pairing this jacket with my Converse, too, don’t you worry. And if you did get to see Bey & Jay (I’m looking at you Tiarra) I’m so jelly.

Happy week you guys!

  1. Love everything about this! Especially that your coat doesn’t make you look like a “furry football player!”? I really love your sunglasses. Are they Warby Parker?
