Universal Standard’s Cool, Size-Inclusive Wide Leg Track Pants Styled 2 Ways

I have no brilliant thoughts about what to say except that these Universal Standard pants are good.

These Wide-Leg Track Pants Are A Universal Standard Must-Have

These pants feature a flattering, high-waisted ponte knit offered in two track style colorways. One has a tux-vibe style (the side stripe is black)….AND they come in sizes 00 – 40. I mean, what more could you ask for? These wide-leg, track-style pants are comfy and definitely work-appropriate.

I feel like Universal Standard just gets some of these things right. They design for a wide range of bodies (and we always love that). I recently did a try-on session with mostly dresses and that’s when I also found these great pants. I’ve styled them up for you a couple of ways here.

1. Track Pants Date Night Style (Add A Jacket For Work)

Love this first combo with the cami and walkable heel. It’s a bit sporty and totally my vibe, yet still dressy enough for a little night out or a casual event.

I like that these track pants have the details of dress pants without being too thin or too hard to fit on my shorter torso. The fabric is thick enough to be very flattering without being heavy or hot. It’s definitely a mid-weight you could wear most of the year.

For fit notes: I’m wearing a 3xs (2-4) here and could almost have sized up to a 2xs (6-8) (I’m typically a 4-6 in pants), but I’d say they do run pretty true to size. Universal Standard has a nice Fit Finder on their site, too, that’s helpful for determining which will work best for you. Again, thank you for offering such a range of sizing. Thank you!

2. Track Pants In An Everyday Combo I Love: A Knotted Graphic Tee & Black Sandals

You may have noticed a knotted graphic tee is one of my best styling tricks. As someone with a shorter torso, most tees are too long on me and tucking is just sometimes for the birds. It’s tricky. It doesn’t stay. You have to redo it all day and it rarely works well with the high waisted bottoms I have.

So, find yourself a tee long enough for you to knot and voila. It’s the perfect piece to pair with high waisted pants and jeans. Knotting it accentuates the waist without the bulk of tucking. It’s also a great trick if you carry your weight in your midsection like I do.

I’m liking that fisherman sandals are having a moment again, but I’m picky about which ones I prefer. These from Faryl Robyn still have a chunky sole, but the overall look isn’t super heavy and the straps aren’t thick and uncomfortable.

And there you have it. A couple ideas to get you going with these great pants. I’m definitely wearing them with all of my white sneakers, as well. I rounded up a few other favorite picks from US below, too.

I think in the fall I’ll add the pair with the black stripe for an even dressier option to my wardrobe. These would be fabulous for travel too, since they’re so versatile yet comfortable. Another final shoutout to Universal Standard. I just love what they’re doing. I’m excited to continue to review and try more pieces. I keep thinking about this dress I tried that really said ‘art gallery event’ to me and I now want it, too. If you have any fav items from them let us know! Until next time…

  1. Universal Standard is great! Their pieces are so well made and they have such an eye for detail! I’ve been thinking about these track pants since you first featured them on your Instagram, Laura! I think I need them 🙂 I also love that fisherman sandals have come back, but haven’t seen any outfits that have been able to balance out their heaviness (?) adequately. But you did it, Laura. These pants look great with fisherman sandals. Now I may need those too…

  2. I JUST received the black pair and was literally going to email about how to style! I love them but am on the fence about how to wear them! I don’t usually don’t do a graphic tee and was feeling more of a Goop/GP vibe? But not sure how to execute or what shoes…. they are just ankle length on me (I’m 5’7). Ideas? Both for working at home and out and about? Thank you!

    • Ah what about a knotted white button down instead of the graphic tee? And flat light tan sandals? Or black flat mules? That would be a bit dressier/casual classic take!

  3. I second the hathaway joggers- so good! I’ve even styled them up for work. I definitely need to add these to my US collection. Love all of my pieces- timeless styles, unique colors, lasting quality, and shopping the website is a joy due to the amazing representation!
