Kids

I scoured the internet & library for kids' books featuring AAPI characters. This is just a sampling & certainly doesn't cover the breadth + diversity of the AAPI experience.
One of the ways I find most helpful to start meaningful discussions with my children about topics such as ethnicities, cultures, religions, equity, etc., is through literature. Often books find the words that my normally verbose self lacks. I try to be intentional about what I'm reading with my children and how characters are portrayed. The podcast Teaching Hard...
My kids no longer turn into complete monsters after screen time. They actually play video games, watch movies, make Spotify playlists & listen to Audible books TOGETHER without fighting (which is lovely).
If you, like me, have completely stepped over to the dark side in allowing (and even encouraging!!) tech toys on road trips, read on. If you have young kids who you’re trying to keep off devices in the car, because they turn into screen-time monsters (like mine did for SOOOOOOO many years), stop reading this post immediately! Take a...
Traveling w/ kids during the pandemic? Risky, but we did it. Our tips, lessons & packing essentials for flying (airport, plane + rental car) that made it (feel) a bit safer.
As someone who loves to travel, this year-long quarantine has given me (among other things) a mad case of wanderlust. The good news is that the more people who get vaccinated and COVID rates go down, the more travel opportunities will start to pop up. We had a chance to fly from Philly to Colorado recently with the...
And while my job IS fashion, to this 13-year-old I know nothing about clothes & he has strong opinions. But this tween capsule wardrobe works — 100%.
Raines has always been tricky to dress, but in the past, the issue has been only about comfort. Specifically: pants. But as he's gotten older, The Great Pants War has died down simply because we've found a couple of pants that worked...and I simply buy the same pairs over and over again. That said...Raines has been -- up until recently...
We love buying cute kids' outfits + accessories, keeping it to well-made, quality items they'll wear again & again. Carter's is a great go-to for kids' clothes.
This post is sponsored by Carter's, Afterpay & ShopStyle Collective. These kids are growing up SO fast, man. Everyone warns you about that happening, but it's not until you have your own children that you really get it. It seems to happen super slow and fast all at the same time...one day their favorite shirt is too big and...
Tweens have STRONG opinions. Apparently, Stuff Their Mom Picks Out is NOT COOL. But, we scored some kids' clothes hits: Spergo (Black-owned) & Jackalo (sustainable).
I can no longer dress my boys -- at ages 10 and 13 they have their own (very strong) opinions about what is and what is not cool. And apparently, Stuff Their Mom Picks Out is decidedly NOT COOL, GUYS. Not cool. (Let's ignore, for the moment, that my very job is scoping out trends and trying to...
"I never want to be an adult!" my Big Feels 8-year-old announced & promptly burst into tears, 2 pages into reading Celebrate Your Body.
"I never want to be an adult!" my Big Feels 8-year-old announced, and promptly burst into tears, two pages into reading Celebrate Your Body by Sonya Renee Taylor aloud with me, a book about puberty for girls and those who identify as such. "There goes my Mother of the Year trophy," I thought to myself as I sought to console...
We craft 1 large collage -- the more crowded the layers, the more interesting -- then cut that collage into a buttload (technical term) of li'l Valentines.
Oh hey! It's just about Valentine's Day. Not sure how the heck that happened (weren't we just ringing in the New Year?), but here we are, and true to the current situation, it's looking a little different. We were required to turn in our class Valentines a week early, so they'd have plenty of time in "quarantine" before being...
For anyone who could use a sweet pick-me-up or Valentine's Day activity, go for DIY treats -- heart-shaped baking, mail-order goods & festive sprinkles.
If you (and/or your kids) are looking for something fun to do that doesn't involve screens or playing outside in the freezing temps, I've got a really good excuse to make some delicious comfort treats: Valentine's Day. Valentine's Day Treats Made With Love It's basically one of the best reasons to treat yo' self and your kids/parents/neighbors...or really anyone who could...
Let's play. Lest we overlook the obvious, board game nights are just right for playing with friends & family. Our top 10 co-op & competitive games, inside.
Sometimes at the end of the day, all I want to do is entirely unplug. Video games might be a passion, but man, I miss having board game nights with my friends. And so, I've put together a guide to all my favorite board games and all the board games I still want to play! Top 10 Board Games...
