When I thought about what would be my fancy outfit this holiday season…I was really kinda bored with what I kept coming up with. As much as I love a good plaid, sparkly earrings and sequin bag, I wanted something different. Anyone else with me? I’m just not feeling the usual this year.
So. I had to go on the hunt for that key holiday piece, the one that would really get me excited. A MASSIVE HUNT. Since I didn’t know what I was looking for exactly, I was kind of all over the place – looking at dressy bottoms, fun tops, crazy statement footwear, but UGH. Nothing made my heart skip a beat. Nothing. I was getting so frustrated that I almost threw my hands up and went with my usual holiday duds (which would have been totally fine, but *sigh*). That, my friends, is when I stumbled upon THE most perfect holiday piece – a long, floral maxi dress with the most amazing sleeves, embroidery, pattern, length & my gosh…gold trim. I hit the jackpot with this one.
I can’t get over it, honestly.
In fact, I took Matt out for drinks one night after work, so that I’d have an excuse to wear it ASAP. It ended up being such a perfect little night out, too. All of the twinkle lights were in the trees, the wreathes hanging on the light posts and a grand Christmas tree was lit. We goofed off together, sipped drinks, actually talked (without the little voices that usually add in a bit of noise) and enjoyed some yummy apps by the fire. There’s something about dressing up a bit and going out, especially during the holiday season, even if it’s a week night. It’s magical! It totally refreshed us. Aaaa.
My Outfit Details
dress: Free People Bold Blooms Embroidered Dress (wearing xs/s) – oh my goodness. I cannot love this dress enough. I mean, WOW. Everything about it is perfection – the red floral pattern, with the royal blue color, the embroidery and the gold trim(!). It’s amazing. I cannot think of anything better for the holiday season.
earrings: Free People Saint Rosa Fringe Earrings (gold wine) – I tried to find something that would be a definite statement, but also would match the boho style. I came across these chandelier-type earrings on the FP site. I am so happy how they finished off the whole look. Seriously gorgeous. I would mention, though, that they are heavy. Not rip-your-ear-off heavy, but definitely heavy. It didn’t bother me while I was out, but I took them off when I got back home. ha.
clutch: Sole Society Velvet Foldover – pretty little bag. perfect for Christmas and NYE.
boots: Isaac Over the Knee by Steve Madden (TTS) – I hadn’t pulled the trigger on OTK the boots, until these. They are affordable and have a nice little heel. They stay up pretty well, too…which seems to be a problem with the over-the-knee boots. I love this pair with my dress. I think it added the perfect amount of understated chic to the outfit. Now, if you prefer a sock bootie…check out these Steve Madden Booties. I have last year’s version and love them.
shirt: Smartcare Trim Fit Dress Shirt – it always seems like Matt never has enough dress shirts, between the work week, church and random nights out. I really like this one, because it is a slim fit – a bit wider in the chest and tapers at the waist. Matt always looks frumpy and wider than he is in shirts that are not a slim style. This one is a really nice basic for him. It comes in several different colors, too, so score!
sweater: Half Zip Cotton & Cashmere Sweater (TTS, he’s wearing a size Medium) – great sweater, to throw on with anything. Matt wore it with a dress shirt, but he’ll totally be wearing it with all of his polos and tees, too.
pants: his are actually suit pants (last minute savior, b/c he didn’t fit in the black chinos I had ordered), but the original plan had been these Bonobos Slim Fit Cotton Chinos (the ones that didn’t fit, but only because they were ordered in the wrong size). Matt liked them a lot – as far as the feel of the material and color. He needs about 5 of them in different colors…in the right size, that is.
shoes: lace-up wingtip dress shoe (from last year), but this Cole Haan ‘Cambridge’ Wingtip is fantastic. I think Matt may be getting new pair for Christmas…
belt: you can’t see it under his sweater, but it matched so nicely with his footwear. This Cole Haan Leather belt matches perfectly with the shoes I linked to above. I, personally, love this color in dress shoe and belt…way more than the classic black or brown. It’s something more fresh.
